Add Household

Use Add Household when donors should be grouped under one household record. Household records help your team review household-level information, keep related donors connected, and use household workflows such as household year-end statements.

Open Donors, select Households, then select Add Household.

The Add Household drawer starts with the required household name and primary contact.

Animated walkthrough of adding a household

Walkthrough: creating a household with a primary and an additional contact.

Create the Household

  1. Enter the Household name.

  2. Choose the Primary Contact.

  3. Add any Additional Contacts.

  4. Expand Additional Fields if you need to add custom household details or a mailing address.

  5. Select Submit.

The household name and primary contact are required. Discard closes the drawer without saving unsaved edits.

Choose Household Contacts

Use Primary Contact for the main donor connected to the household.

The Primary Contact selector uses existing donor records.

Use Additional Contacts for other donors who should belong to the same household. When you submit the household, Gratona links the selected donor records to the new household.

Choose contacts carefully. Adding a donor to a household changes which household that donor belongs to.

Add Household Details and Address

Open Additional Fields when you need to store more household information.

Additional Fields includes custom household profile fields and mailing address fields.

This section can include:

  • custom fields from the household profile form

  • address line 1

  • address line 2

  • city

  • state or region

  • postal code or zip code

  • country

Add or change custom household fields from the household profile form.

After You Submit

After the household is created, the Households table refreshes and the new record is available for review and household workflows. If required fields are missing, Gratona keeps the drawer open and highlights the fields that need attention.

Permissions

Add Household appears only when your role allows household management. If you can open the Households tab but do not see the add action, ask an account admin to review your permissions.
